Manufactured in the late 1930s by Alfred Johnson Ltd, this suite is a masterclass in Art Deco geometry. Featuring sharp, stepped edges and a streamlined silhouette, it represents the pinnacle of the “Pyramid” sanitary ware line, which was renowned for its avant-garde approach to traditional bathroom fixtures.

• The Modern Pyramid Basin: A substantial 70cm wide basin featuring a stepped rim and a deep, functional bowl.

• The Pagoda Pedestal: A sculptural base that mimics the tiered architecture of the era, providing a dramatic foundation for the basin.

• Authentic Branding: Both pieces feature original stamps—”The Modern Pyramid” on the basin and “Pagoda” on the pedestal—ensuring its provenance for the serious collector.

Condition and Historic Character

As a genuine 80-year-old antique, this set displays a unique patina that reflects its long history. It is an ideal candidate for a sympathetic restoration:

• Integrity: While both the basin and pedestal show visible crazing, the unit has been professionally tested and is confirmed non-porous and fully watertight.

• Authentic Marks: There is a slight chip on the pedestal and two on the rear of the basin, though these are largely concealed once the unit is installed against a wall.

• Restoration Note: There is a historic crack on the left of the basin (pictured). This can be expertly repaired by a specialist at an extra cost to restore its seamless appearance.

• Fitment: Note that the basin has a slight lean to the right when seated on the pedestal, a common characteristic of large-format hand-cast ceramics of this period.
