Vintage Shanks Avon Mist Grey Basin & Pedestal

Mid century Shanks Avon basin and pedestal set in Mist Grey with 2 taps. The basin and pedestal are dated from the late 1950s / early 60s and in the very rare Mist Grey colour. Mist Grey was first introduced by Shanks in the late 1950s, however proved not to be a particularly popular colour at the time, with consumers opting for bright pastel colours such as Coral Pink or Sky Blue rather than grey. Not long after its release Mist Grey was discontinued until the late 1980s when bathroom manufacturers reintroduced grey sanitaryware, proving to be far more popular than in the 1960s. This particular Shanks basin is part of the Avon model and would have been considered very modern at the time of its production with its smooth and curved appearance compared to Edwardian and Art Deco items made before this.

The basin and pedestal are both in good condition, there is a slight mark within the ceramic of the basin but this is not particularly noticeable. Both items are made from quality Vitreous China ware so have not developed any crazing. Original taps are still fitted and work, however could do with some restoration or just to be replaced entirely.

Ideal to be used as a replacement or if you are looking to add some character to your bathroom suite.
